Who Is the Right Photographer? – My Thoughts
For Women who are considering doing a photoshoot asking yourself who is the right photographer for me?
You must dig deep to understand your thoughts and visions. Ask first, “what am I trying to get out of this photoshoot?” I feel that a photoshoot is something extremely personal. Even if it is for your business, it still is YOUR business. To me a photoshoot is an expression of your visual creation. You envision something in your head that you want to get out onto either a digital screen, a print, a painting, drawing, sculpture etc. Then create it using whatever tool is your chosen arsenal. The tool I offer you is a camera and the digital image. The photoshoot process should be enjoyable, fulfilling, empowering if you are doing it for all the right reasons (mostly reasons that fill your own soul and not for external validation). This video is truly amazing and powerful. As I watch it I would think about, if I were to do a photoshoot as my true own self expression, what would I want that to look like? Who do I want to be?
That video really needs to end with one more thing she says which is, “to all those who say “Be a Lady” Go F*ck Off!” Now that I’ve hopefully empowered you to take a leap, take a step, move forward with anything you’ve been wanting to ever do but just have not found maybe the “permission” to do it, go get what you want in life! Because as the cliche says, “life is way too short”. Who do you want to become? Since a photoshoot is completely based on your own self expression you can be absolutely anything! This is why I really love love love photography. You can be a vixen, a heroin, sweet, flirty etc etc etc. all the things that you want to be that will be expressed into the most beautiful artistic form. Release yourself from what others want and come into your own self with all the things that you want.
Now with those thoughts in your head, ask yourself, “is the style I’m thinking about for myself, the kind of style that I think this photographer can make happen for me? Does their style align with me vision? Do I trust them enough to make my vision become a reality? Even if you do not think you are creative you must trust that you know what you like and don’t like.
Lastly, please never forget:
YES YOU ARE WORTHY OF GETTING YOUR PICTURE TAKEN
YES YOU ARE A WORK OF ART.
YES YOU CAN TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. DON’T BELIEVE IN ALL THE THINGS THAT SOCIETY THINKS YOU SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT BE.
RELEASE YOURSELF FROM WHAT BINDS YOU AND ASK YOURSELF “IS THIS STORY I CONSTANTLY TELL MYSELF SERVING ME?”
YES YOU CAN REFRAME YOUR MINDSET AND RECREATE YOUR OWN DAMN STORY
Pictures of one of the photoshoots I had done for myself because I’ve determined I’m worthy of it. My friend Thai Le is super amazing so if you are in Portland check him out! https://www.thailephoto.com
